About Me

Hello, my name is Basil. I’m happy to have a privilege of you as my guest here.

Hello There!

Welcome to my professional website. Here, you can get to know me better.

Writing #

I’ve been writing since 2007. I call my posts stories, as I try to make my every post a finished polished story. Two most recent ones are:

Keeping _My_ Time
Keeping My Time
I’ve been not changing one of my clocks to winter time for 4 months.
Half a Year of Matrixing

Since this website is mostly text and pretty pictures, a visitor is expected to read.

  • I’m doing my best to not bore you to tears;
  • and I’m trying to be careful with how I use words. Well, you know.
Sometimes I do alerts, just to grab your attention.

Professionally #

People Person #

I’m a people person. I enjoy being in a society, and I spark joy being with smart people. I can communicate with basically anyone.

Unless I’m too tired. When I am, I get some rest, and I’m willing to be among people again.

I have a great deal of experience of working (and befriending) with:

  • individuals with autism.

I have an autistic child, and she’s great. My wife is partially autistic too.

And me too. I’ve worked through it for decades and am able to integrate with neurotypical people as well. This has made me well-prepared to interact with and support non-typical individuals.

  • individuals with ADHD.

Many people these days have ADHD, myself included. I’ve worked on managing it for many years, and I’m now able to focus on the things that matter. My interest in this subject has made me more understanding and tolerant of others who share this condition.

Remote or On-Site #

I’m very productive working from home, but I’d prefer a hybrid office any time.

I think it’s an ideal combination, when you have this luxury to stay at home when needed, and go to office when you’re up to it.

Computers #

I can work on any computer, including smartphones and tablets.

My hardware of choice is Apple’s MacBook Pro,
my software of choice is Linux, Arch Linux.

I wrote more on this topic:

Software Suites #

I can work with any possible software too.

If I don’t know something, I’ll learn it quickly, no problem.

  • As a manager, I’m well versed with various mail clients, Office suite and especially ways to automate my work. I wrote various scripts that automate most of my tasks, so I can be efficient.
  • As a designer, I know Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite (mostly Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects). I know 3D Software too, but to a lesser degree.
  • As a developer, I know Linux and nvim. Also, I’m proficient in Terminal, of course. (Funny thing, it covers most of my tasks.) I have a wide use of Virtual Machines too.

AI #

I am experienced working with various LLMs (also called AI, GenAI, GPT these days).

My overall stance is from positive, to somewhat negative. I treat it as an instrument, it can be very useful, it is impressive, but it has its drawbacks too. I wrote a couple of articles stories about this topic.

Personally #

I have a tremendous issue with separating my life and work, a so-called work-life balance. The thing is, I don’t believe we can separate these things.

I enjoy this Apple TV show, called Severance. It’s about the idea of people having this option to separate themselves from their work. Long before the show aired, I gave this idea some thoughts too, and realised that’s not possible. And, what’s the matter, why would we separate from our work? That train of thought inspired me to make my visual presentation. In a way, I am my interests and my work.

Your works is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.

— Steve Jobs

Saying that, I’m not sure to which degree I should trim my personality out of my work. Some topics are highly irrelevant (say, my family notes), so I avoid them here.

Random Facts #

Here are some random facts about me:

  • I have two pre-school kids (and a wife, of course!)
  • I am an open-source enthusiast
  • I love-hate Apple Tech
  • I visited over 30 countries
  • I understand 7 human languages, plus some computer ones
  • I’m authoring many blogs.
  • This website is made with the help of the great open-source project, Hugo.
